Founder Anthony G. Thanas in 1962
Three Generations

Bestway Cleaners is a fourth generation family business with over sixty years of service in Anderson Indiana and Madison County.

In 1959 the founder, Anthony G. Thanas, used his vision and previous experience in hat cleaning, shoe shining, as well as drycleaning to open a store at 210 W. 29 Street.  During this same time a new facility was being built at 2716 Nichol Avenue.  This location was one of the first businesses to start on a very young undeveloped west side of Anderson.  It opened October of 1960 and currently is the main production plant.

Second generation, George A. Thanas managed and developed the 29th Street store through the 60's, 70's, and 80's before starting a third location at 706 S. Scatterfield Road.  He took the business into a modern era of drycleaning using advanced technologies and equipment, as well as adding new services and customer conveniences.  This new location was one of the first cleaners in the state  to incorporate a drive-thru window for customer transactions and voluntarily used waste recycling before there were any state regulations to do so.

Third generation, Anthony J. Thanas, joined the business in 1984 and has worked to the present date.  Through the 80's, 90's and turn of the century, Bestway Cleaners has continued its philosophy of providing the highest standards of quality, value and customer service.  This continuity has given Bestway the opportunity to earn titles such as "A Certified Master Professional" by Fabritech International; "A Certified Environmental Drycleaner" and "A Certified Professional Wetcleaner" both recognized by The Dry cleaning and Laundry Institute.

Fourth generation, Joseph A. Thanas, became involved full time in 2012, after serving in the United States Marine Corps.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has awarded the business its highest honor of "Five Stars" in its Environmental Recognition Program.  Bestway is the first and only dry cleaning business to achieve this award in Anderson and Madison County.

In 2003,  the business partnered with Community Hospital in their Coats of Caring Program.  Participating in this program has enabled Bestway Cleaners to clean approximately 10,000 coats for distribution to families in need in the local community.

The State of Indiana selected the company as a Half Century Business Award winner in 2009.  This prestigious award was given by Governor Mitch Daniels to companies that have operated in Indiana for 50 years or more while demonstrating a high level of community involvement.
